In Not Quite 100 Days…

Banking industry under government control.

Chrysler owned by its union. GM  & other big companies run by the government.

President gets power to turn off the Internet and maybe regulate what goes on it(!)

President gets power to run the census.

President moves to socialize talk radio, invest taxpayer $$ in failing leftist newspapers.

I’m leaving out a lot. I haven’t even touched foreign policy.

Does anyone have any doubt where we’re headed? Does anyone seriously think that there will be enough freedom left to reverse this in two years, much less four? Can anyone even conceive of what this country will look like a year from now at this pace?

  4. We must not lose sight of the promises of God. With all the signs of persecution looming over the horizon… we must remember the words of Joseph:

“…You thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

We will be refined and become epistles of Christ wherein men will read of His beauty and love.

  6. I can’t help but think about the Anchoress’ comments recently about God working through all of these bad events.

“…but in order for some things to happen, other things must be allowed to happen first. If you don’t let the crucifixion happen, you get no resurrection. Too many are forgetting it; they’re looking at all of this through thoroughly earthbound eyes, relying on utterly earthbound tactics, and forgetting the mystical and the supernatural component that is essential in all of this.”

Yet, I am also going to take the time to say how much I appreciate all the things that you do here on this blog that give encouragement to many of us.

[Thanks, MI. I wholeheartedly agree with the Anchoress' sentiment. Despite my many near-apoplectic, hair-tearing frustrations with this administration, I am increasingly of the opinion, on the level that counts, that what is going on is God's Will to bring America (or at least some who will humble themselves) back to Him. If anyone ever said it would be easy or pleasant, they weren't looking closely enough at how Christ described the journey of walking with him and being sanctified in him. -ed.]

  7. I also wonder about what’s coming next — every day!! Thank Goodness we know this is not the end, but sometimes it seems pretty hopeless, doesn’t it?

If God didn’t abandon us after the flood, I expect he’ll help us recover from the mess we’re in now. I pray He will!!

[He will but we must seek Him earnestly. -ed.]

  8. Denise,
I find that I am rather verbose also, but I enjoy reading other opinions even if they are in disagreement to me! I saw no obnoxious intent in your post. It is a balm to me to see that other people feel as I do in regard to this man (I sound like my mother talking about Roosevelt). I agree completely with you, and I am so glad that there are blogs like Scipio and Anchoress and New Wineskins.

  9. p.p.s. After I posted I noticed Virginia’s comment was longer than mine and I just wanted to let her know that I was in no way referring to the length of her post with my “respect for your comment space” remark!! My original “novelette” was obnoxiously long, at least twice as long as hers. Sorry, Virginia!

  10. Sir,
I appreciate your website so much; it is one of the places I go to be spiritually refreshed when online.
Since Nov. 4, 2008 it has been an exercise in self-punishment to read the news, and yet I feel I must be informed of the evidence of the ruthless implementation of a humanist socialist agenda in this country, once populated a by proud, independent, educated and civilized people.

I admit, I am a pessimist. I predict that sometime within Obama’s reign I will no longer be allowed to access good Catholic commentary like yours and Scipio and the Anchoress. But even then God will provide what I need to know. Until then, like you said, I will enjoy it and read it while I still can!

p.s. I wrote a novelette here originally but deleted it out of respect for your comment space. :-)

  11. I also have a dread of even looking at Obama. I cannot stand to listen to him for more than a moment or two. I did not think I would see the unfoldment of this type of government in the US in my lifetime, but it is in the door and moving easily through the halls and rooms.

  12. Yes, there is a lot going on, and I worry with you that two years may be too far away to do anything. Do you think that he may cause an end-run around Congress and not even need that institution any more?

When Clinton was elected, I felt disappointment in the American people, sure that they were blind to his faults. I became convinced that they were not blind, but did not care and were more interested in enthroning partisan politics in the halls of Congress.

When this man came on the scene, I had such a shuddering dread each time I saw him or heard his voice. People are blind, morally and spiritually, to have elected him on such a shallow reason as his color, and the sound of his voice. (I can’t stand to hear it.)

Talk radio may be subjected to the Fairness Doctrine by the backdoor. Barney Frank is talking about hate legislation. (I remember people talking about house churches during the Carter years. We may have to start thinking about that again.)

Howard Kurtz’s article on the weekly dinners of the media elites and the White House rulers has cemented the idea that the fourth estate is the fourth arm of government. Now, most of my news anymore comes from Great Britain. I get more truth from the UK papers than from my own country.

It is discouraging, but I think we must gird ourselves as Paul suggested and be wiser than our leaders in hunting out the truth, even if it is from overseas. Will we need to set up clandestine websites to pass on the news? Perhaps.

You are right. There is too much to touch upon in regard to all the possibilities.

God help us, and bless us.
