180 Movie

I’m trembling, both at the horror, but also at the possibility for changed minds and lives. Even agreeing, I wanted to look away. We cannot afford to do so.

  1. The argument is compelling, but it’s NOT NEW. Ronald Regan was the first to publicly put forth Comfort’s argument with his “what if there’s a baby in the box?” argument from the early 80′s.

I think Comfort’s argument is great for clearing up an obvious contradiction that resides with many who call themselves pro choice.

It’s a great video, but nothing revolutionary……..this is something we’ve been saying for a long time – but it hasn’t made much difference, because that battle for the unborn is against those who say that life begins at viability, or for many, birth. That is a MUCH tougher fight, but that’s where this battle will ultimately be won or lost.

[ART: Ecclesiastes 1:9 - "There is nothing new under the sun." Indeed, the Truth does not change (so we are not consumed). One thing I find, as I get older, is that the cultural and political reference points that used to be common jumping-off-points for discussion, get stale and need to be refreshed. Reagan's "don't kick it" line (about a paper bag in the gutter, that might or might not have a animal in it) worked then, just as the "would you blow up the building?" argument works now, for Mr. Comfort. As long as folks are hearing the true gospel, and its full implications, blatant plagiarism is just fine with me!]

  2. 22weeks” This is a must see, life-changing movie on the hideous abomination of abortion. Every school should be showing it…

The phrase “You can’t handle the truth” is so applicable to the abortion industry, as those in the industry have to dehumanize and “remove the truth” when discussing the “process” (scissors, ripping, injecting) with the mother. It’s so sick, as it’s all a bunch of the Enemies lies, to the mother…

Lord, please have mercy on us…thank you for this post Art and all that you do.

    Todd

[ART: Thanks for that reference, Todd. Link added, above. This stuff is all absolutely stomach-churning to face. No one but a psychopath would enjoy looking at it. Yet such is the true nature of our sin generally, and not just abortion. It's what makes the grace of God so sweet to contemplate. NO MATTER WHAT anyone has done, that costly grace is available, in a repentant turning to Jesus.

One of the things about the 180 film that struck me most powerfully was brother Comfort's juxtaposition of the Nazi death-camp corpses and numbers (~6 million) with those for abortion (~53 million). It's easy to see what Germany acquiesced to, under the Nazis and shake our heads and wag our fingers, saying: "oh yes THAT was PURE evil!", and yet... When you do the rough math, the sheer volume of dead human flesh is probably about the same. Sobering...]

  3. This video goes to show that some who say they have made up their minds, when confronted with the truth, really have not. Satan and his followers are agents of death period. And anyone who follows their “systems” are as well. He uses humans by way of deception to cause the death of people, and because of their sin and being responsible, brings about their death physically AND spiritually.
    Jesus is the way!

[ART: There is something incredibly refreshing about clarity and Truth which beckons us out of the thickest fog of confusion.]

  4. I saw this a few months ago and was also astounded by how adeptly he moved from the Holocaust (which we will no doubt see a variation of in the future) to the abortion issue. Also didn’t know that Ray Comfort was a Messianic Jew.

After watching, I felt compelled to quiz our 16 year old daughter on some of the questions posed in the film. As Ray said, “If we don’t know our history, we are condemned to repeat it.”. Fortunately, she knew the answers!

The real question about shooting Hitler is, would it have made a difference? If we believe in a sovereign God who controls all things and only allows what He allows, then would killing Hitler have mattered or only laid the path for someone even worse?? Our time of choice is materializing before our very eyes. We were made for such a time as this.

[ART: I found brother Ray's hypothetical questions about killing Hitler so provocative that they could have led to a feature-length film all on their own.

Historians, and scenario planners, like me, call such questions 'counter-factuals', e.g., 'What if JFK hadn't gone to Dallas?', 'What if stock market circuit-break rules had been in place in 1929?', 'What if the Pilgrims had been shipwrecked in Newfoundland?' etc. Of course God, outside of time, has seen it all and thus He deals in the realm of the actual not the 'what if'. As such, we need to not get too balled-up in such things.

Based on the responses of some of the individuals to whom Mr. Comfort posed the question, my big 'take-away' was that, they were diagnostic of peoples' hearts. (E.g., if you think death is 'it' and that God's ultimate justice is inadequate, then you will naturally harbor extreme anger at anyone who killed your loved-ones. I.e., you will routinely commit murder in your heart.)

Still, the question of physical violence as a mechanism for fallen human beings to pursue God's will is a perennial point of debate among those who sincerely seek to follow Christ -- as well as those who seek to revile him.

Killing Hitler seems obvious, but is it? So too the broadly accepted premise that killing German or Japanese civilians was justifiable. David was no stranger to killing and so his companions were stunned when he passed on multiple opportunities to take out King Saul, yet we're told that David had God's heart. (Saul is obviously different from Hitler, in many ways, yet similar in some others).

Killing Hitler's pregnant mom seems a less obvious 'good', even to an abortion supporter. Yet killing her and the rest of her family starts to raise the question of where to stop. It makes us squeamish... as it should, because it's really no different from what's gone on in Syria for decades if not millennia.

All of which turns us back to the first question, as well as to specific examples, e.g., was Dietrich Bonhoeffer right to get involved in a plot to kill Hitler? Answer: Judge Jesus will get it right. We daren't usurp his authority.

We all look for hard rules, i.e., moralism, yet those can be found in any religion. They subtly enable us to take power into our own hands and avoid taking seriously our humble-servant role in service to the Living God. An active relationship with the Creator of the Universe is unique to the Christian faith and it is our only relevant guide. It is ours ONLY through His appointed King, Jesus, the Christ, the Living Word of God.]

  5. What a great film! It made a big impact on me! It also illustrates how wise it is to use examples of real life situations to witness to people. As Christians we can be so “spiritual” in our presentation that we forget it does not register to unbelievers and in fact mostly just turns them off to listening.
For example, whenever people ask me questions about why I think things are happening in the world, I just simply say to them, “just trust Jesus no matter what happens. He is in control despite how bad things look.” They usually look at me as if to say, how is that gonna help me?– But somewhere down the line they will remember those words; JUST TRUST JESUS!
    God bless, Sarah

  6. Good reminder of a powerful film. Been exactly four months since i saw it. Thought I shared it with you back then but I guess not.

    God bless.

[ART: You probably did, in which case, H/T: Jay. :) One thing I've learned about this game is that when I assume 'everyone' has seen something, it's almost invariably the case that some have not. Keep spreading the word, folks!]

  7. I saw this on FB awhile back and YES — I was very encouraged by the way the interviewer was able to make people SEE or, I should say, the way the TRUTH made them SEE.

Thank You Lord for Your Grace and Mercy!
    Peace Brother

  8. Thanks Art– like another comment, I had seen this months ago and have failed to share it with very many others.

Bless you for passing it on — time is short to know who our Messiah , Yeshua is and for folks to learn the truth.

It is startling when one grasps fully — looking around at folks — got to step up sharing Him more boldly <

  9. I watched this a few months ago. Part of me cringed at the abortion connection, as it immediately alienates people just waking up to the rising anti-semitism case made. (I fully agree with this films viewpoint.) The net result for many will be a further blinding and hardening of heart. Like Jacob’s Trouble this is also determined, but woe to those who don’t fall on The Rock.

[ART: I agree. That was an abrupt transition. Yet I have to keep reminding myself: the Truth about sin and death (i.e., our culpability for sin and our proper and just sentence, of death) is offensive to the natural man or woman who wants to think of him or herself and free and good by their own merit.
This residue of the flesh fights back, within us, even as believers, so long as we're still in these bodies.

The larger picture this paints, of our national culpability, is staggering to contemplate, going much deeper than any simple Hitler epithets one might throw around. It reminds me of the tenor of Daniel's fervent prayer of confession on behalf of his people, as recorded for us in Daniel 9:1-19 (the part prophecy buffs tend to breeze past on their/our way to verses 26 and 27).]

  10. This is a very powerful and moving video. I wept at the responses. I pray this video is viewed by millions. Our nation is in deep denial, sin and rebellion. May we repent and seek mercy.

[ART: Not to give anything away, but I was moved by something about Steven's face near the end... a certain softening... a supernatural movement. Even the fact that he was willing to continue in dialogue with the filmmaker.]

  11. Stunning, amazing 30 minutes of film. Thank you for posting it. Did you know today is International Holocaust Remembrance Day? How appropriate…
I’m going to challenge my daughter’s Sociology teacher to show this in class (gently and with respect). They are doing a unit on religion, and she just showed them Bill Maher’s “Religulous”. Maybe this will provide some balance… and change some minds.

[ART: I did not know that that was today. Thanks, SR! Guess the Spirit's nudge was for more reasons than I was aware of.

I only became aware of this film via short ad on the radio last night as I drove home late, in the cold rain, from the airport. On reflection, I'm sensitized to the 'parabolic' fact that I heard it as I was on a big, looping ramp that turns one around 180-degrees. The ad finished just before I went through the narrow gate of a toll booth and entered into one of the long tunnels (familiar to most as "The Big Dig"), i.e., about to go underground in expectation of re-emerging later. Hmm...]
