Wake Up, Church!!!

(H/T: Todd)
It’s all useful, however Carter Conlon’s bit, from 8:00 to 8:21 is worth hearing at least twice.

  1. Excellent message. I’m wondering if you’ve read Brother William’s latest article, http://gatesofthecity.wordpress.com/2012/02/11/why-judgment-must-begin-in-the-lords-house-those-who-are-called-by-his-name/.” It so reminds me of the Ravenhills and Washers and Conlons who cry out for the people to return to their first love, in holiness and righteousness.

Thank you for this video, Art.

[ART: I had not. Thanks, Rhonda!]

  2. Hi Art,
I am so glad you enjoyed some of my posts. Thank you for checking out my blog and leading others to it. You might enjoy my newest post – Game Over. Your comment on my color choice made me LOL! I am a girly girl and love pink, but couldn’t find a pink and brown motif and settled for pink and green as my first foray into this virtual world of expression. I am more of a retro mod chick and definitely could never be described as “preppy”. LOL again. :)

  3. Terry your dream is very important. I too have had this same understanding.
    Peace,
    Deirdre

  4. L. Ravenhill nailed it years ago, still true today, “Entertainment is the devil’s substite for for Joy…”

Whoa!, “entertainment” (in ALL of it’s myriad forms) IS the American pastime, idol, culture, bondage, golden calf, addiction, salve, etc.

( Leonard had put into words, what I had been increasingly spiritually uncomfortable with, and was struggling to put into the right words, for years…)

thank you Lord for brother Leonard and all the others in this video…

[ART: Timely words, Todd. I'm in NYC on business. Colleague invited me to a play this evening. Hadn't been to one in a long time (except 'Freud's Last Session' -- a C.S. Lewis apologetic, several months ago, with the same colleague.) Be in the world but not of it, right? Well... it seemed the whole audience thought the bitterness, sin, despair, drunkenness and fornication in this relatively mild piece was absolutely hilarious; subtle and sophisticated. I just saw a lot of people (both on stage and in the audience) dying in the dark.]

  5. As I watched this video, tears ran down my face. God has been putting [similar] words in my heart to share with others. Especially my article – God is Love – which speaks of God’s love AND judgment and His holiness. Like you, many of your readers and the men of God on this video, I also believe time is short to get out the truth – especially to a church that is in love with its watered-down gospel.
    Blessings, Tracy

[ART: Yes, time is short and... God is sovereign. Routinely, throughout scripture (e.g., Joseph, Job, Jonah, Jesus) He uses the 'messiness', pain, suffering and evil of the world, and people who hate Him to bring about His glorious ends -- to their shame. What continues to put me in awe is that he allows and enables us to participate in that in a more positive sense, through His Holy Spirit, Word and prayer, letting us share in glory of Christ because we are in Him, called out of darkness from before the beginning.

Tracy, I also liked your piece, 'Scripture or Sound Bites'... though I gotta say, sista, your blog's color scheme reminded me of the wardrobes of some prep school kids I used to hang out with, long ago. :) ]

  6. Last night’s dream:

I’m outside at night and it is warm like summer. All at once the sky flickers 3 times and then lights up. It is illuminated by a large grid pattern, as if the lines on a map or globe were superimposed over the sky. Now that it’s lit you can see several satellites and planes as clear as day. I realize that some technical feat has been achieved with either HAARP or by refining Tesla’s experiments.

With it as bright as dusk outside, over to my left I see a field of small cattle. Then I see in their midst is a wolf, walking around on it’s hind legs. The cows don’t seem to recognize it’s a wolf, what with the upright walking. The sinister wolf looks directly at me.

    I wake up.

[ART: "...do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul... behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 10:28 & 28:20b)]

  7. Wow, this is so convicting, & it makes me want to weep for my own sleepiness, and that of the church. What has she become? What have we become? Very sobering Art, thank you for posting. I’m going to check out the website holydesperation.com now.

  8. These synagogues that have now become so common in our land make me sick. I am visiting a different place tomorrow, I wonder if I will find faith holiness and reverence for the Word of God there. Every single one I have visited so far over the last year makes me sick to my stomach and I will not participate. Period. I am sharing this on my Facebook page. I am also sharing this post from Carlos. It has to do with Superbowl 46 and namely the halftime show with Madonna.

[ART: I can definitely empathize with your frustration and ill-at-ease feeling, Jeff!!

The Lord allows us to suffer through flawed (sometimes deeply flawed) church environments for a season (sometimes a long one) for a variety of reasons, including teaching us, seasoning us, humbling us, giving us a platform to bear witness, helping out others who are also 'stuck' there, developing our long-suffering and patience, and setting perfect timing for us to be somewhere else.

Elijah's (and Jonah's) pout bouts are also instructive. We must never allow ourselves to believe that, a) God owes us a perfect worship environment (at least not this side of heaven), or, b) that we're the only ones left. Every time I've tried to ascend one of those pedestals of pride, He has gently brought me down and showed me how wrong I am. Praise His holy name for such grace!

If my own recent experience is any guide, the Lord is preparing outposts and fellowships and remnants for a great work of revival that we can't yet quite see. The cost of that will be very high, but the rewards infinite.]

  9. Bravo to you! Thank you for taking the time to blog this. It is reassurrng to hear.
    Jeff

  10. All of it is worth listening to more than just once. Thank you for posting this!
