Yet More Evidence That We’re in the Last Days

…in the last days… people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit
(2nd Timothy 1b-4a)

Bus monitor Karen Klein tormented.

Footage of the 12- and 13-year-olds taunting Karen Klein has been viewed some 8 million times… Mrs Klein, 68… break[s] down in tears as she is subjected to a litany of insults. The barbs include profanities, physical ridicule, taunts and her being told to shut up. Some ask what her address is, telling her they want to steal from her and perform sexual acts. One boy tells her she does not have a family as “they all killed themselves because they didn’t want to be near you”. Mrs Klein’s son killed himself 10 years ago.

I had seen of this story (hard to avoid!) but had not made the explicit Biblical connection until just now. (I simply can’t watch the video… one wonders what went through the minds of some of the eight million people who did so for kicks, like the kids — or the voyeuristic and emotionally removed (not-my-problem), as with Kitty Genovese.)

It’s easy to remember plenty of stupid stuff I did or at least witnessed at that age, but this seems a big step beyond — literally unconscionable, in the sense of being ‘without conscience’ and therefore without the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps the Lord will turn these kids around, to His glory, as he did with a vitriol-spewing Paul.

The scene reminds me a bit of Genesis 19… and Lord of the Flies.

We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. (1st John 5:19)

  1. I did watch part of the video, and it is something I regret. My heart broke for her. And at the same time, my heart broke for those children. They are headed down a dangerous path to an eternity in hell and they need our prayers just as much as she does. They need the love of God as much as we do. I pray and hope that God move in their hearts and minds before it’s too late.

  2. America home of those who flee and land of the slave. 13 colonies, rejecting authority on the premise of self governance. Doing so to escape taxation (HA) but playing into the snare of the devil. It is nearly the end of the line for “lady liberty” aka Ishtar. In America you can be prosecuted for speaking out against sin and receive government funding for killing the unborn. I have a few FB “friends” who I have sought to reach out to, most just don’t get it.

    ISAIAH 30 — A Rebellious People

    8 And now, go, write it before them on a tablet
    and inscribe it in a book,
    that it may be for the time to come
    as a witness forever.
    9 For they are a rebellious people,
    lying children,
    children unwilling to hear
    the instruction of the Lord;
    10 who say to the seers, “Do not see,”
    and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right;
    speak to us smooth things,
    prophesy illusions,

  3. I’ve noticed that looking for behaviors to satisfy last day signposts seems to cause blindness in the other direction, mainly, the thousands of outraged responses to this event and the huge donation collected by good hearts to help this widow out of her situation.

    [ART: Good point. The Restrainer is still restraining, it would seem. It's hard to imagine a world where this kind of stuff is the norm, but without God, that's exactly what it would be like. We too often take God's quiet work for granted.]

  4. I was unable to watch the video also. I have a weak stomach but just reading the article I sat stunned for longer than I know. I can only imagine the shame I would feel if I were a parent of one these wayward kids.

    I raised three children that gave me plenty of sleepless nights and days spent in prayer seeking to get them back on the right path. Thankfully mine never did something as grievous as this spectacle. I read their punishment and feel it was appropriate and now hope their hearts follow along and they never behave in such a manner.

    It seems each day brings new horrors to read about in this country that has turned its back on God.

    [ART: It does seem that the punishment is reasonable (though one could argue either way and I would not object). Ms. Klein's advocacy for reasonableness in the punishment (and I assume some degree of forgiveness along with that) is nice to see.]

  5. We just have to look at the Occupy crowd and see how they are lauded on TV and in Congress, whilst the Tea Party is “full of bigots and racists, and are violent.” We need to be more aware of what is going on around us, v.s. the stoning of Christians in Dearborn, MI.
